Treatments for Moderate Scalp Psoriasis

Moderate scalp psoriasis can be treated with a combination of treatments, including topical medications, phototherapy, trigger point injections, and systemic medications. Topical medications such as corticosteroids, vitamin D analogues, and tar-based products can be applied directly to the scalp for relief of itching, scaling, and redness. Phototherapy exposes the skin to ultraviolet light, which can help reduce inflammation and itching. Trigger point injections can help reduce inflammation of the scalp. Some systemic medications, such as methotrexate and cyclosporine, can help reduce moderate scalp psoriasis flare-ups and improve symptoms. In severe cases, biological medications such as infliximab and etanercept can be prescribed.
