Tinea faciei is caused by a variety of fungi, including Malassezia furfur, Trichophyton rubrum, and Epidermophyton floccosum. These fungi commonly live on the skin without causing any issues, but can become problematic when the conditions are right. Factors that can contribute to the development of this infection are a compromised immune system, frequent skin-to-skin contact, and excessive perspiration. People with diabetes, HIV, and other immunodeficiency diseases are more prone to this infection.
