Itching of the Foot

What Causes Foot Itching?

Foot itching is a very common and annoying problem. It can be caused by anything from dry skin, to fungus, to allergies, and more. In order to treat the itch and keep your feet healthy, it’s important to understand what is causing your foot itching.

Common Causes Of Foot Itching

  • Dry Skin: Dry skin on the feet can cause an itchy sensation. This can be caused by environmental conditions, such as taking a shower with hot water or living in a dry climate. An easy fix is to moisturize your feet regularly.
  • Fungal Infections: Fungal infections such as athlete’s foot can cause redness, itchiness, and even burning on your feet. This type of infection is contagious, so try to avoid going barefoot in public places like the gym or public showers. Of course, consult your doctor if you suspect this is the cause of your foot itch.
  • Allergies: Allergies to materials like latex, leather, or synthetic fabrics can cause foot itching. Check your shoes for any fabric or materials you may be allergic to and substitute these with shoes containing less of the allergen.

Treatment For Itching Feet

Treatment for itchy feet can depend on what is causing the itchiness in the first place. However, in all cases, it is important to clean and dry your feet regularly, especially if you have a foot fungus. Additionally, you can try anti-inflammatory medications, antihistamines, or topical creams.
