Candidiasis of skin NOS

Candidiasis of Skin, NOS

Candidiasis of skin, NOS (not otherwise specified) is an infection of the skin caused by overgrowth of a fungus called Candida. This type of fungal infection, also known as candida cutaneous infection, can affect any area of skin but is particularly common on the feet, and may look like red, scaly, patches of skin. Other symptoms may include itchiness, burning or stinging sensations, and peeling skin. This condition is most likely to occur in people with weakened immune systems, such as those with HIV or AIDS, or in people who have spent a prolonged period of time in a hospital.

Treatment typically involves topical antifungal medications, which can be in the form of creams or ointments, and may be applied directly to the affected area of skin. In some cases, oral antifungal medications may also be prescribed. It is important to always take these medications according to your doctor’s instructions, as these medications may interact poorly with other medications or supplements you are taking.

There are also some regimens that can help to decrease the risk of contracting candidiasis of the skin. These may include improving hygiene, wearing loose-fitting clothing, avoiding too-tight footwear, avoiding contact with people who have active fungal infections, and keeping your skin moisturized. Additionally, it is important to avoid sharing towels or bedding with individuals who have a currently active fungal infection. If you suspect that you are at risk for developing candidiasis of the skin, be sure to speak to your doctor so they can rule out any underlying medical conditions or suggest other preventive measures.
