Tips for Keeping Your Lips Moisturized

Dry, chapped lips can be incredibly uncomfortable, and they can sometimes be difficult to deal with. Unfortunately, they are also relatively common in dry climates. Thankfully, keeping your lips hydrated is not too difficult as long as you stick to a few simple steps.

  • Drink Plenty of Water – Hydration is key to health in general and that includes your lips! Make sure to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day. Aim for 8-10 ounces at minimum. If you’re particularly active in the summer or winter months, your water intake should increase accordingly.
  • Use a Humidifier – if you’re living in a particularly dry climate or are in an environment where the air is not being naturally replenished with humidity, a humidifier can be a great solution. Place it in the bedroom or living space and be sure to change the water frequently.
  • Avoid Licking – You may be tempted to keep your lips wet by licking them, but this is actually one of the worst things you can do. The saliva evaporates quickly leaving your lips drier than they were before. Instead, try coating them with a natural lip balm.
  • Choose the Right Lip Balm – Not all lip balms are created equally! Choose a product that includes natural ingredients that won’t irritate your skin. Beeswax, Shea butter, coconut oil, and other essential oils are all excellent and natural ingredients for keeping your lips moisturized.
  • Protect with Sunscreen – Just like the rest of your skin, your lips are susceptible to sun damage. Take extra precautions when exposing your lips to the sun for extended periods of time. Apply a lip balm with sunscreen included to ensure your lips stay nourished and shielded from harmful UV rays.

By following these simple steps, staying hydrated, and being mindful of the environment, you will be well on your way to having smooth, healthy lips all year round!
