Uses

For the removal of external genital warts located on the penis and vulva

Podophyllotoxin (PPT), also known as podofilox, is a medical cream that is used to treat genital warts and molluscum contagiosum. It is not recommended in HPV infections without external warts. It can be applied either by a healthcare provider or the person themselves.

Condyline is also used to associated treatment for these conditions: External Genital Warts, Perianal Warts

How Condyline works

The exact mechanism of action is not well understood. It does appear, however, that it and its derivatives may bind and inhibit topoisomerase II during the late S and early G2 stage. The drug may bind and stabilize the temporary break caused by the enzyme. This disrupts the reparation of the break through which the double-stranded DNA passes, and consequently stops DNA unwinding and replication

Dosage

Condyline dosage

Apply twice daily, morning and evening (every 12 hours) for three consecutive days followed by four days without treatment. The use of 0.5% Podophyllotoxin Topical Solution is twice a day for three days constitutes a treatment cycle. Treatment cycles should be repeated up to four times until there is no visible wart tissue.

Irritating to the eyes and mucous membranes; GI disturbances; thrombocytopenia, leucopenia; renal failure; hepatotoxicity; CNS effects; EEG changes; peripheral and autonomic neuropathies; local reactions
